The U.S. Premier of the Avior from Rockport Technologies occurred at The Sound Environment on Tuesday December 20th.  They were shown with Electrocompaniet Nemo monoblock amplifiers, Electrocompaniet preamplifier and the Boulder 1021 CD Player with Transparent RMM cables and Transparent Power Conditioning.

The Avior in our showroom

The Avior is Andrew Payor's latest design.  The Avior incorporates the same Beryllium dome tweeter as used in the Altair, a spectacular new midrange driver with an extremely rigid, low mass carbon fiber sandwich composite cone and two equally spectacular brand new 9" forward firing woofers of similar design.  Both midrange and woofer drivers are newly designed from the ground up by Andrew.

The new midrange's extremely low cone mass is coupled to a completely new, super linear, high power motor system.  The result is an ultra responsive, ultra low distortion  (-60 dB!) and spectacularly musical midrange.  You must hear what these new midrange and woofer drivers do for the revelation of the sound of musical instruments and the performer’s approach to the music.  It is an astonishing, you are there, experience.

The speaker weighs in at about 225 pounds each and has a sensitivity of 89.5 dB.

The Avior are $29,500 a pair.

This pair of  Avior is sold and will be delivered on Friday December 23rd.  We anticipate having a pair that will remain on demo in February.

The Sound Environment hosted its 4th annual Music Matters Event on Thursday April 7 from 4-9PM.

It was a great success with attendees impressed with the performance of the REL sub-bass systems and the high performance level available with a properly configured Mac Mini system.

Presentations included

·         Computer as a music server.

The preferred computer to be a dedicated music server is a Mac mini.  Brian Tucker gave a presentation and demonstration on how to do it best, using Sonic Studio Amarra software as an integral aspect of the server.  Done right, this approach yields musically accurate results at a very reasonable price.  High definition music files can be downloaded directly to the mini or you can upload your CDs.

The Sound Environment will offer correctly configured mini computers with Amarra software integrated.  If you already own a Mac we can configure it properly and install the software.

The mini can be controlled by an iPad, iPod or iPhone.  The digital signal from the mini goes to a Digital to Analog Converter (DAC).  The analog output of the DAC feeds your amplifier.

New DACs to make your Mac a great sounding music server are available from NAD, Cambridge, Arcam, Boulder, dCS, Esoteric, Hegel, Wadia and Weiss.  These DACs are priced from about $300 to more than $10,000.

·       Subwoofers for music systems.

Amazing demonstrations were given of the new REL sub bass systems.  These are not just noise makers for home theater but quick, dynamic, low distortion, musically accurate sub bass systems that can extend the performance of any music system.  Allan Haggar from REL presented these amazing demonstrations and wea re prepared to demo them for you if you missed the event.

The remarkable REL systems not only extend the deep bass response of music systems, they make the system work properly in your room and they increase clarity and musical realism in the all important mid-range.  Hear the difference this increased clarity can make in a music system.

The REL approach allows you to use main speakers that are smaller than you might have considered, or to improve performance of an existing system by adding REL Sub-Bass.

REL Sub Bass Systems range in price from $599 to $3999.  There are eight models.  One will be just right for you.
